About the City of Greater Sudbury

The City of Greater Sudbury is a progressive, dynamic community with a growing population of roughly 157,000. Located approximately 400 km north of Toronto, the city offers a unique blend of modern and rural lifestyles by combining the efficiency of a large metropolitan city with the tranquility of magnificent wilderness surroundings.

Home to over 330 lakes within its municipal boundaries, the region is a hotbed for recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, camping etc. Ramsey Lake, located in the heart of downtown Sudbury, is the largest city-contained lake in North America, and Lake Wanapitei, on the eastern boundary of the city’s limits, is the largest city-contained lake in the world.

Sudbury is a regional post-secondary educational centre featuring Cambrian College, Collège Boréal, Laurentian University and a main campus for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) situated within its limits.

Greater Sudbury also prides itself on its parks and beaches, professional entertainment, an IMAX theatre, and its two world class science centres Science North and Dynamic Earth. Many annual events, such as Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival, Northern Lights Festival Boréal and Summerfest music festivals, LOL Sudbury Comedy Festival and the Blueberry Festival, provide entertainment that is unique to the region.
